Coral reefs are influenced by atmospheric conditions such as temperature, carbon dioxide levels and winds. The polyps require sunlight for the zooxanthellae to photosynthesise. High levels of carbon dioxide lead to high water temperature which then causes coral bleaching. Winds can cause waves which can then damage coral(particularly branching)
